Z-Wave

Z-Wave is a low-power wireless mesh communication protocol used for automation and device control.

Purpose in AOFS

  • Valve control modules
  • Pump relays
  • Environmental sensors
  • Farm automation components

Layer Mapping

  • Sensor/Actuator → Field Controller
  • Primarily local automation layer

Strengths

  • Low energy usage
  • Good interoperability in automation devices
  • Mesh networking capability
  • Reliable short-range communication

AOFS Compliance Notes

  • Z-Wave devices must not override physical safety mechanisms
  • Field Controller retains full authority over all actuation
  • Communication loss must default to safe physical states
  • All actuation events must be logged
